Blueprint for a Government Cyber Security Open Source Program
The policy brief emphasizes the significance of open source software (OSS) in driving global digitization and its vital role in national security concerns. It urges governments to take responsibility for supporting and securing the OSS ecosystem by collaborating with stakeholders and adhering to principles of respect, cooperation, and sincerity. The brief outlines key guidelines for government action, such as serving as internal coordinators, role models, supporters, and regulators within the OSS community. To effectively implement these guidelines, the establishment of a Cybersecurity Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is proposed, which can facilitate policy interventions and resource allocation to improve OSS security. Ultimately, the blueprint seeks to encourage governments to prioritize and allocate resources in a structured and sustainable manner for a more secure and thriving OSS ecosystem. Read more
