Updates from Linux Foundation Europe projects 🚀
OpenWallet Foundation:
We are excited to announce our intent to launch the OpenWallet Forum, to help drive multi-stakeholder collaboration and discussions on interoperable digital wallets. The OpenWallet Forum will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and International Telecommunication Union (ITU), offering a platform for governments to engage with standards bodies and companies working on digital wallets. The new collaboration builds on the success of the Open Wallet Foundation, which will remain focused on bringing developers together to work on open source software for secure interoperable wallets.
Additionally we welcomed Hedera as our latest member and we are thrilled to introduce the latest project: OpenID4BLE.
RISE:
The RISE Project celebrates its first anniversary in May! RISE has now been around for a year, and in that time we have not been idle. As you can see from our wiki, the RISE working groups have all been active in developing plans and actually doing work on upstream projects.
We also participate in conferences whenever we can, either as the RISE project or from member companies. Just in the past month or so, RISE has presented at Embedded World Europe, Embedded Open Source Summit North America, and Red Hat Summit, and there are several important RISC-V events on the near horizon - RISC-V Con in Santa Clara, California on June 11, RISC-V Summit Europe in Munich on June 24-26, plus several other events coming up in the second half of 2024 - RISC-V Taipei Day, RISC-V Day Tokyo, RISC-V Summit China, along with Embedded World North America, DV Con Europe,SuperComputing 2024, and Embedded World China - not to mention RISC-V Summit North America in October, for which the CFP and registration are already open!
We hope you will be able to join RISE members at these events to learn more about the RISC-V software ecosystem and how you and your company can help with it by joining RISE.
Servo:
While May started with Servo contributors and team members being present at three different events — GOSIM, RustNL, RustNL unconference in Delft, Netherlands — we also made lots of progress on layout, improved our font support, and worked on supporting different Android builds.
Some of the highlights were:
- Adding color emoji support for Freetype
- Improving the way we use fontContext
- Enabling JIT compilation for 64-bit Android
- Fixing 64-bit ARM APK crashes
Last month, at OSS North America in Seattle, Servo team member Rakhi Sharma delivered a talk on where we’re at after a year of working on Servo. The recording is now available, and minutes can be found on the blog post.
Sylva
👨🏫 In May, Sylva continued to participate in major events and announcements:
- A great webinar was organised by Suse on TelcoEdge: Sylva & Open RAN
- OpenBao Press Release of the Linux Foundation mentioned Sylva
🚀 Stay tuned for our new website, which will be released soon!
