Exciting announcements from LF Europe
NeoNephos Foundation
Linux Foundation Europe has officially launched the NeoNephos Foundation, aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation in open cloud infrastructure, digital sovereignty, and next-generation cloud technologies in Europe. Emerging from the EU’s IPCEI-CIS investment, NeoNephos responds to the growing demand for secure, scalable, and transparent cloud solutions aligned with European digital sovereignty goals.
The foundation brings together leading organizations, technology providers, and academic institutions to develop open-source solutions for European enterprises and public sector entities. Initial founding members include companies like Clyso GmbH, Cyberus Technology, Deutsche Telekom AG, SAP SE, TNO - ECOFED, STACKIT and 23 Technologies GmbH. NeoNephos invites additional members and collaborators to join its mission at neonephos.org.
Engaging with Local Open Source Communities
- Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of joining the open source seminar at Università degli Studi di Salerno, bringing together voices from academia, industry, and the wider community.
- Gabriele Columbro offered a snapshot of the global open source landscape, while CNCF Ambassador Sara Trappetti shared her journey and the role of community in cloud native innovation. LF Europe members ReeVo and SEACOM highlighted how partnerships between universities and companies can strengthen real-world impact.
- It’s inspiring to see students and researchers so engaged—building the next generation of open source contributors, maintainers, and leaders.
- We also joined Codemotion Rome, where Gabriele delivered a keynote on the role of open source in enabling cross-border collaboration and digital sovereignty. The event brought together over 1,000 developers, with strong representation from startups, enterprises, and the financial services sector. It was a valuable moment to reconnect with the Italian tech community and highlight the opportunities open source can unlock locally and globally.

Linux Foundation Europe Projects: Featured news
OpenSSF
- With the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) officially published as Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 and entering into force on December 10, 2024, the countdown is on for organizations to understand and prepare for its full application by December 11, 2027. The CRA introduces broad obligations for products with digital elements, aiming to reduce cybersecurity risks and increase trust in the European digital market.
-
- To help organizations prepare, LF Education and the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) launched a free training course: “Understanding the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) (LFEL1001)” - now available online.
-
- This course covers the key requirements of the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), including terms, roles, obligations, essential cybersecurity requirements, product markings, compliance processes, and penalties for non-compliance. It prepares decision-makers, software developers, OSS developers, and OSS stewards to navigate CRA compliance, mitigate risks, and meet regulatory standards.

- First release of the Stylo crate.
- Improvements to DevTools are ongoing with recent support for the Debugger > Sources panel. In addition we have now a new about:memory page to track memory consumption.
- New WebView API keeps progressing.
- Ongoing work on the layout engine with the initial support towards implementing incremental layout and removal of the legacy layout 2013 engine.
