- Open is Sovereign: A Vision for Europe's Digital Future
In his keynote, "Open is Sovereign," Gabriele Columbro, General Manager of Linux Foundation Europe, offers a clear path forward. He explains that true technological autonomy comes from active leadership within the global open source ecosystem, not from isolation. This approach uses the world's shared technology to build a more innovative, secure, and economically strong Europe.- Watch the keynote to understand how global collaboration is essential for a sovereign digital future.

The idea is to bring together academia with peers from industry from different domains. The symposium is for everybody, who:
- utilizes open source software in safe and secure embedded systems
- wonders how to utilize and maintain open source software in regulated context
- works on methods and tools used to qualify open source software
- At this symposium, ELISA Project ambassador Philipp Ahmann (ETAS GmbH) will be presenting a talk on “Code, Compliance, and Confusion: Open Source in Safety-Critical Products“. Learn more about the talk.
OpenSSF
- Successful week at Open Source Summit Europe & OpenSSF Community Day 2025. From August 25-28, 2025, the open source security community gathered in Amsterdam for Open Source Summit Europe and OpenSSF Community Day Europe. Over four days, developers, maintainers, policymakers, and security leaders explored the future of open source security through keynotes, sessions, demos, and workshops.
- Highlights included discussions on regulatory readiness, secure build pipelines, SBOM accuracy, and AI/ML integrations, along with live demos and Ask Me Anything sessions at the OpenSSF booth.
- OpenSSF Community Day featured more than two dozen sessions, keynote insights, and a Tabletop Exercise simulating a real-world incident response. It also celebrated the Golden Egg Awards, honoring Ben Cotton, Kairo de Araujo, Katherine Druckman, Eddie Knight, and Georg Kunz for their leadership and dedication to securing open source.
- Looking ahead:
- OpenSSF will continue its European engagement this fall at the Linux Foundation Europe Member Summit (October 28) and the LF Europe Roadshow (October 29) in Ghent, where it will host the CRA in Practice: Secure Maintenance track.
- On October 30, OpenSSF will co-host the European Open Source Security Forum with CEPS in Brussels, uniting open source leaders, policymakers, and security experts. Stay tuned to the OpenSSF events calendar for updates.
- Thank you to everyone who joined us in Amsterdam for a week of knowledge sharing and collaboration. OpenSSF Community Day session recordings are available on YouTube and photos on Flickr.
Rise
- October is nearly upon us! The RISE Project is gearing up for our largest RISC-V event - the RISC-V Summit North America in Santa Clara, California. This event brings over 1000 RISC-V silicon providers, software developers, verification engineers, and enthusiasts together for three memorable days.
- The first day - this year on Tuesday, 21 October - is Member Day, often the only time of the year when many of the 80+ working groups in RISC-V International meet in person, and also host to RISC-V 101, a half day of seminars introducing people to the RISC-V community and explaining what it’s all about, including speakers from RISE Project member companies. The second and third days include the conference itself, packed with RISC-V content and featuring a tradeshow floor with dozens of booths and a Developer Zone full of hardware and software demonstrations.
- Wednesday also features a co-located event, the RISC-V Developer Workshops - a full day of training sessions and hands-on workshops, steeply discounted and with financial aid available to enable anyone to attend. RISE Project is a proud sponsor of this event as well.
- To cap things off, make sure to visit the RISE Project website for updates on all of the working groups and RFC efforts. You can also find a video recap of our September webinar on AI/ML workloads, presented in cooperation with RISC-V International.
