OpenSSF
- Tech Talk: CRA-Ready: How to Prepare Your Open Source Project for EU Cybersecurity Regulations
- The recent Tech Talk, “CRA-Ready: How to Prepare Your Open Source Project for EU Cybersecurity Regulations,” brought together open source leaders to explore the practical impact of the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). With growing pressure on OSS developers, maintainers, and vendors to meet new security requirements, the session provided a clear, jargon-free overview of what CRA compliance involves.
- Speakers included CRob (OpenSSF), Adrienn Lawson (Linux Foundation), Dave Russo (Red Hat), and David A. Wheeler (OpenSSF) shared real-world examples of how organizations are preparing for the regulation, even with limited resources. The discussion also introduced the LFEL1001 CRA course, designed to help OSS contributors move from confusion to clarity with actionable guidance. Watch the session here.
- EU Cyber Resilience Act Standards - Interest Poll
- Global Cyber Policy WG is running a CRA survey to measure interest in the individual Standards work streams for the CRA. The results will be used to determine the specific Standards in which the group will invest time and focus.
RISE
- Event highglights:
- RISE Project had an excellent engagement at RISC-V Summit Europe 2025 in Paris, where we talked with hundreds of attendees and provided a number of presentations and panels.
- We had a booth and keynote at RISC-V Days Taipei, in association with Computex, and are now planning ahead for RISC-V Summit China and RISC-V Summit North America, plus potentially a mini-summit in Amsterdam at Open Source Summit Europe.
- in the past month, there have been a several major announcements, including:
- The RISC-V / RISE collaboration to join the Yocto Project, specifically to bring RISC-V in line with other major architectures - RISC-V is the member org, while RISE is providing software expertise and technical support. I
- Red Hat announced a Developer Preview for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 10 on a RISC-V platform for the first time (SiFive’s HiFive Premier P550) and demonstrated it at Red Hat Summit.
- We also have made progress on supporting Go, Rust, Python, and LLVM in the ecosystem.
- Our Developer Appreciation Program has evolved from a pilot into an ongoing program, now featuring Developer Spotlights. So it has been a busy month!
- RISE continues to find new ways to support the RISC-V software ecosystem, and we are always looking for new members to join and provide financial and technical support into this vital resource. Poland poised for deeper engagement with open source
- This was a key theme at a recent conference in Warsaw, hosted by APELL, the European Open Source Business Association. Discussions highlighted Poland's significant opportunity to embrace open source more fully, emphasizing the critical need for both European and global collaboration. A significant insight from the event was the strategic aim within Poland's Digital Strategy 2035 to establish a national Open Source Program Office (OSPO). This move is anticipated to create a new interface and elevate the quality of open source engagement across Central and Eastern Europe.
- Our very own Paula presented at the conference and you can find the recap of the event and slides of the presentations here.
- Furthering these discussions, a key event titled "Open Source and the European Union | Poland," organized by OpenForum Europe, focused on bridging the gap between Poland's dynamic open source communities, its thriving industry, and policymakers. The collaborative spirit of these events underscores a growing momentum for open source in the region.

Driving Open Source Security and Digital Sovereignty: Key Insights from LF Europe
Operationalizing Open Source Security: From Compliance to Resilience
At the AI Cybersecurity Forum 2025, critical insights were shared on "Operationalizing Open Source Security: From Regulatory Compliance to Ecosystem Resilience." Key messages included:
- Aligned Responsibilities: Regulatory approaches, such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), are increasingly differentiating between manufacturers and open source software stewards. This crucial distinction helps align operational responsibilities with the reality of modern software development, where open source constitutes an estimated 80% of the codebase. This offers a more practical and effective path to security.
- Guidance for Better Security: The OpenSSF Baseline provides invaluable guidance for open source projects and businesses. It offers a common ground derived from various global regulations, helping organizations achieve higher levels of cybersecurity.
- The Power of Collaboration: A central takeaway was that collaborative open source approaches to cybersecurity scale far more effectively than individual compliance efforts. This highlights the collective strength of the open source community in addressing shared security challenges.
NGI Forum 2025: Shaping the Future of the Internet
- At the NGI Forum 2025, discussions revolved around crucial topics that impact the future of the internet, including digital sovereignty, innovative funding mechanisms for open source, and spotlighting notable NGI-funded projects. These conversations underscored the ongoing commitment to building a more open, resilient, and sovereign digital future.
